About Sean Hodge w/ High Heat
Sean started playing the guitar at the age of 11. His dad figured that the best way to get his son interested in playing the guitar was to have one around but not let him play it. Sean’s first instrument was the trumpet, which he played until the guitar lured him away. Sean’s journey to becoming a performer has been a slow and cautious one. The business of entertaining is so often caught up in the fulfillment of ego, or the desire to fill a hole inside oneself with the fleeting admiration of strangers. Sean has always felt more comfortable as a teacher than as a performer, and has only recently been able to reconcile these two pursuits with a genuine urge to participate in the community, to bring people together, and to bring them joy. Sean’s music ranges from simple folk tunes to high energy jams, from far out jazz fusion to beautiful instrumental journeys. He plays his own music with a band called “High Heat.” He is also a member of a band called “The Dance,” whose mission to get people’s feet moving causes him to push the guitar beyond his own expectations. Sean’s songs are about his experiences, and about the broader experiences of all people as only he can see them. His influences are varied and strange. He studied music at UC Berkeley and has listened to far too much Jerry Garcia. His tastes range from the Bard to Bach to Cage to Brown to Young to Bassnectar—whatever is happening, really, that speaks the truth and resonates with the soul. Sean has never felt more at home than behind the guitar. He feels a passionate drive to bring people together and create great music, to create and nurture community, to participate and lend a hand, and to be here for it right now. As our world changes, we may once again find ourselves becoming more locally inclined. So come check out a show, or find us singing at kickball. Sean hopes to join with the other minstrels out there in song and share joy amidst the radical changes of our time.
